The pitch in one paragraph

Every major dating app starts with the same question: "Do you find this person attractive?" Blind Dating asks a different one first: "Could this person actually be the right one for you?" Profiles lead with personality and values, not photos. Faces stay blurred until two people build enough genuine connection in conversation — measured by a six-tier engagement model — that they both vote to reveal. The reveal is mutual and simultaneous, never one-way.

Why now — the data

The case for a structural reset of the dating-app model is documented and quantified.

78% of dating-app users report burnout Forbes Health, 2024 — 80% of women, 79% of Gen Z
−90% Bumble stock since 2021 peak Bumble SEC filings — ~$13B in market cap erased
30% of Bumble's staff laid off in 2025 Match Group cut 13% the same year
>50% of Gen Z burned out "often or always" Forbes Health, July 2025

How it works

Sign up. A five-minute Big Five personality quiz plus a short values set covering kids, religion, ambition, money, lifestyle.

Match on substance. The algorithm pairs people on personality compatibility and values alignment. Profiles show name, bio, personality summary — but a blurred photo.

Talk for real. Conversations move through six vibe tiers: Just Met → Warming Up → Something Here → Vibing → Almost There → Ready. Message depth, response quality, and consistency over time drive the score. One-word replies don't.

Reveal when it's mutual. Both people hit Ready, both vote yes, photos reveal simultaneously. Either no, the conversation continues, no penalty.

Quick facts

Founder

David Samwel is a Distinguished Solutions Engineer at a major California enterprise software company and the founder of Blind Dating. He's been with his wife for nearly 20 years and has never used a dating app — which is exactly why he noticed what they were getting wrong. After a decade of watching friends burn out on swipe culture, he built the app he wished existed for them.

"Every dating app today asks the same question first: 'Do you find this person attractive?' That's the wrong question. The right one is: 'Could this person actually be the right one for you?' Blind Dating is built to ask the right question first — and let attraction follow naturally, the way it does in real life."
